The 1st gal was doing really well, but had interesting 1st Trimester symptoms (daily dizziness, bleeding, & pain in her hip where the muscles are stretching). Baby was doing good though, so no worries!!
The 2nd gal has been fighting a UTI for the last 2 months!!! She was also slightly edemic.
The 3rd girl was extremely edemic, & the 4th had an abnormally large FH (fundal height), so we referred her for an ultrasound to make sure her dates are correct.
I also gave 2 Tetanus shots.
We got out early (11:45am), & so Heidi, Jordan, & I went to the mall to get some groceries and eat lunch.
At 2 pm, Jordan & I went on Birth Shift. I was able to give 3 PP checks as Primary, which was fun. Here is one of the Clients, her bantay, 3 year old daughter, & newborn baby. (Sorry, her baby was hungry :D)
Jordan is now at the 'Handling Stage', meaning she can be the Primary Midwife under Supervision, & so she was first up for Labors. Thus, when Day Shift endorsed a Labor, she got it. Unfortunately, they ended up transferring her to the Hospital, because of failure to progress, etc.
She ended up with another Labor by the middle of shift, who we endorsed to Night Shift, so NO births this time.
As you can see, we are NOT starving here!!!
Our Scrumptious Dinner (thanks to Kamerie & the OH) Squash Ginger Soup & homemade Lasagna!! |
Dessert: Mango/Graham Cracker something. :) |
How do Filipinos treat UTI's, if they don't always have access to doctors? Do they self-treat? If so, how, or, in the end, do they always need to get antibiotics? I'm curious to know if UTI's can be treated successfully without antibiotics? I really enjoy reading your blogs! You young ladies are having the time of your lives! Many Blessings to you and your team-mates!
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous (please identify!!) :p,
ReplyDeleteMostly, Filipinos self-treat, using water therapy, buko (coconut) juice, cranberry juice, garlic, etc.
The protocol here at Mercy, is to keep having it rechecked, & if it gets above a certain number, we refer them to the doctor for more treatment/antibiotics.
The patients often don't follow through though, because of finances.
Often, UTI's can be treated without the use of antibiotics, especially if you catch it early enough, though it depends upon the case.
Does that answer your question? If not, let me know!!
